St. Luke's is fortunate to have a superb musician leading its music program: Organist Babs Fickes serves as Director of Music at Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church in the Belmont section of Charlottesville.

Organist Babs Fickes graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA with an Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering and from Bridgewater College studying organ with          Dr. John Barr.  Babs studied organ privately from the age of 10, and her teachers included Fritz Werner in Stuggart, Germany and J. Tucker Cook, former organ instructor at Washington & Lee University in Lexington. Babs also has been singing since age 10 in church, school, college and special choirs with directors Dr. Ken Nafziger, Alice Parker, Fritz Werner, and others.

Babs has served numerous churches, including her home church in Waynesboro from 1946-1954, as Organist for the US Armed Forces Special Services in Georgia and Germany from 1954-1959, and, from 1960-1985, as Music Director for 3 different Churches in Waynesboro and as a music teacher in a private elementary school.  From 1985-1997 she was Assistant Organist for a number of churches in Charlottesville including St. Luke’s and served as Director of the Hand Bell Choir at Christ Episcopal Church.  She began at St. Luke's in 1998.
