Tuesday, May 6th was an evening young writers from the Scottsville and Yancey elementary schools will remember for some time. Their parents, grandparents and friends were assembled and waiting to hear each one read a story they had written and was chosen for the JRAC literary program. What an opportunity to use a microphone and read before and audience! Many readers shared accompanying illustrations. The audience heard what children's maginations conceive - from kindergartners to fifth graders. Each reader received applause and a book the Scottsville Library. And ()f course, Nancy Pryor, chair served refreshments for JRAC. Laurel Greene and Lillian Schafft organized the readers.
JRAC looks forward to the next public reading in December - and hopes parents will encourage their children to write - a great summertime activity.
The literary committee wants to remind you that Riverbanks to Mountaintops - Writings of Rural Virginians ( a JRAC publication) is available at $10 each, a great gift for newcomers or relatives. For copies call 286-3281.
