KIWANIS CLUB OF CHARLOTTESVILLE What we are We are part of a worldwide service organization consisting of a third of a million men and women in eighty-four countries serving the needs of others, especially children and youth. The Kiwanis Family (K-Family) worldwide includes more than 600,000 individuals in K-Kids (elementary schools), Builders Clubs (middle schools), Key Clubs (high schools), Circle K (colleges), and AKtion Clubs (special needs individuals), and Kiwanis Clubs. Where and when we meetAt the Ponderosa Steakhouse, Pantops Mountain Shopping Center (Route 250 East -- Richmond Road -- intersection with Route 20 North -- near I-64 exit 224) on the first, second, third, and fifth Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is followed by a short business meeting, fifty-fifty, and happy dollars. The program is introduced at 7:30. We end our meetings at 8 p.m. sharp. The fourth Monday is dedicated as a work night.Non-profit agencies submit a variety of hands-on projects for our members to perform on site. Twenty or twenty-five members usually attend to do painting, yard work, mass mailings, clean-up, fix-up, etc.Dinner is provided by Breadworks. The cost of all meals is included in member dues ($113/quarter). What we expect of membersRegular attendance at Club meetings with at least 75% attendance as a goal; a commitment of some of your time to our club projects; personal sponsorship of new members into the club; acceptance of responsibility for committee appointment and for any office to which you might be elected. What we promiseAn opportunity to share experiences, knowledge, time, and interests; to serve the people (especially children and youth) in your community; to enjoy the prestige of Kiwanis membership; and to experience fun, fellowship and friendship each time we meet. Our meetings are not only informative, they are fun. Studies show, Kiwanis membership is good for your health. How our club serves the Charlottesville/Albemarle areaAll money raised at fund-raising events supports the community service activities listed below. All club administrative costs are borne by club members. In 2005-06, Kiwanis donated approximately $30,341 to the community programs listed below.
