The James River Arts Council
(formerly The Scottsville Council for the Arts)

Welcome To All

The James River Arts Council is dedicated to promoting a greater understanding and appreciation of all the arts through education, encouragement and support of arts organizations and local talent, and by providing art information to the Scottsville and surrounding region.JRAC was formerly the Scottsville Council of the Arts, but we have grown over the past few years and our new name better reflects the larger region we support.

All meetings of the JRAC Board are open to the public and held quarterly. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate. We will be working on the budget and planning events for the rest of the year at our next meeting so please attend if there are events you would like us to consider. Click here for current events.

Get involved! James River Arts Council is a volunteer organization that needs your help to plan and organize concerts, exhibits, shows and workshops. Poets and writers are welcome at our Writer's Group or Poetry Workshop. Photographers, scultors, and artists in all media are ebcouraged to participate in special shows. However, we also need a band of hearty individuals to serve on the board, help with membership, prepare the newsletter and do other tasks. Please contact us if you want to volunteer.

Annual Photography Show

Work has begun on the Annual Photography Show. This year the show will actually be two shows in one with the addition of a National Juried Show. Previous shows have been regional and non-juried. We will still have the local non-juries show, but the addition of a national show should make this year very exciting.

The show is scheduled for late spring and we will make details available soon.

New Artist Membership

The James River Arts Council has decided that it can do more to help regional artists by offering a special artist membership category. The artists membership includes reduced entry fees for JRAC sponsored shows; contact information may be added to the website with links to artist websites; and artist members can display up to four images of their work on the JRAC website.

More details concerning these features will be available soon. If you are interested in an artist membership please contact us at JRAC @ avenue.org.

James River Arts Council Board Meeting

The JRAC Board of Directors met on Thursday, October 30th at 7:30 pm at the Scottsville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Regular quarterly meetings have been scheduled with the next meeting scheduled for Jan. 22nd at 7:00 pm. The meeting will still be held at the Scottsville Baptist Church.

The budget for the Annual Photography Show was approved. The next show should be even bigger and better than the last. Once the details are settled we will be asking for volunteers to help with the show.
