CVGA Meetings

Meetings are usually held on the second Saturday of each month at 1:30 PM in the basement of Union Bank and Trust at the northwest corner of Rt. 29N and Rio Road, (1700 Seminole Trail) Charlottesville, VA. (Signs will direct you to the proper room). Visitors are always welcome.

CVGA Membership

Memberships are for the calendar year, and includes a subscription to the Central Virginia Heritage (ISSN 1043-4895), our quarterly print journal. The Heritage is indexed in PERSI.

Annual CVGA Menbership Dues are $15.00 for individuals, $17.50 for families ($19.50 USD outside of the U.S.). Dues should be mailed to: Attn: Treasurer, Central Virginia Genealogical Association, POB 5583, Charlottesville, VA 22905-5583.

Genealogy Queries

CVGA will print queries in the Heritage, in the order received free for members, or $2.00 each for non-members. The editor reserves the right to edit submissions, but will try to publish all information relevant to the query. The editor reserves the right to refuse to publish any query submitted and does not assume any responsibility for errors of fact in the query. As you compose your query, please bear in mind that space is limited.

Genealogy Research

Since its inception the association has established a library of genealogical and historical works, periodicals, pamphlets, and manuscripts. This collection is housed in the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society Library.

While CVGA does not conduct research for others; we may be able to find persons who will perform this service, though no endorsement is intended or implied.

Computer Interest Group

The Computer Interest Group (CIG) meets once a month, except in Summer. Meetings use a wide variety of formats, from roundtable discussions to speakers/demonstrations on specific techniques. This "CVGA Web Site" is a CIG project.

CVGA's primary geographical focus is on the old counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Hanover and Orange; that is, the present Piedmont counties of Albemarle, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Buckingham, Campbell, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Hanover, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, and Orange, and the Shenandoah Valley counties of Augusta, Page, Rockbridge, Rockingham, and Shenandoah. The Central Virginia Genealogical Association (CVGA) was formed in July 1977, to encourage, foster, and organize genealogical research, teaching, publishing, education and recording. CVGA received its charter as a non-stock, non-profit corporation from the Corporation Commission of the Commonwealth of Virginia on 21 September 1977.
